Some of my earliest impressions of managing people came from television characters like Mr. Slate on “The Flintstones,” Mr. Spacely on “The Jetsons,” and Mel Sharples on “Alice.” All three were short tempered, unreasonably demanding, and would fire employees at the drop of a hat.
